SWINE FLU AND PREGNANCY


Any flu virus can be dangerous for a pregnant woman, but swine flu appears to be especially threatening. A recent study indicated that pregnant women have been hospitalized more often than
other patient populations while battling the swine flu.


WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF SWINE FLU?
The symptoms of swine flu resemble those of regular flu. These symptoms include fever, feeling badly, muscle aches and pains, sore throat, cough. The swine flu also may have intestinal tract symptoms such as nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. These intestinal tract symptoms show you this is a different virus.


WHEN SHOULD YOU CAll YOUR DOCTOR?
At the onset of symptoms. The CDC recommends pregnant women who have swine flu symptoms be given antiviral medications as soon as possible. Pregnant women should get vaccinated against the regular influenza and stay alert regarding the
development and availability of the H1Nl vaccine.
