Hold Off On Taking That Long Sunday Nap

nap

Several studies lately have pointed to the danger of sitting for prolonged periods of time and how this can lead to a variety of health issues that have become known as metabolic syndrome. Heart disease and diabetes are diseases that are linked to excessive sitting. Conditions under this syndrome that can lead to disease include:

  • High blood sugar
  • High cholesterol
  • High blood pressure
  • Fat accumulation around the waist

Now a new study adds to our understanding of Metabolic Syndrome. And it is aiming at naps! Long daytime naps have been found to add to your risk of developing the combination of health issues that can lead to disease and early death. The study did point out the need for rest and sleep for good health and said that napping should not be considered a “never” option but rather a chance to refresh occasionally for short period. Researches suggest that a nap should not last longer than 30 minutes and should not be taken too late in the day, risking the chance for ruining your sleep at night.

Every day your routine should should include exercise, healthy eating, and rest. The doctors of The Woman’s Clinic regularly diagnose and treat heart disease and diabetes in our patients.
