With the increased awareness given to breast cancer and the need for research, many honest and reputable charities work hard to raise money to fund that research. But unfortunately, it also has allowed for disreputable charities who seemingly only raise money to pay their officers.
So how do you know who to trust? There are several online sources that allow you to see how each registered charity spends their income – breaking it down into administrative costs, salaries, etc. and research donations and patient services. Two online watchdog groups are Charity Navigator (charity navigator.org) and Give.org. You can use these websites to make sure that your money is going to legitimate organizations who spend a reasonable amount of money on their own operating costs and that they fund services that are important to you.
